In an article in The Smithsonian Magazine electronic edition, dated March 1, 2023 and written by Will Sullivan, he stated that “By studying seismic waves from earthquakes, scientists have detected evidence of another core at the center of the Earth. They call this new layer, located at the heart of Earth’s inner core, the “innermost inner core.”
He based his statement on an article that was published in “Nature Communication” on Feb 23, 2023, and received 31K views. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-0The article is titled “Up-to-fivefold reverberating waves through the Earth’s center and distinctly anisotropic innermost inner core” by Thanh-Son Phạm & Hrvoje Tkalčić.
Than-Son is quoted saying “The two proposed layers of Earth’s inner core appear to be similar—both are composed of an iron-nickel alloy—but they sport different crystal structures, per the Post. The transition between the inner and innermost cores seems gradual.” He said also “We may know more about the surface of other, distant celestial bodies than the deep interior of our planet”.
While we suspiciously welcome this new discovery as more research is needed, we do not agree with the author in that we may know more the surface of other, distant celestial bodies than the deep interior of our planet. We are still infants in learning the majestic creation of God, whether that of the earth or of the heavens. Psalm 104: 5 says, “You who laid the foundations of the earth,
So that it should not be moved (תִּ֝מֹּ֗וט tim·mo·vt = totter, shake, slip) forever,” In this verse I would like to highlight that the word foundation came in the plural form. So the possibility of having a many layered core does not contradict with the word of God.
